Design & Technology

Design & Technology moved on many years ago from the stereotypical area for ‘drilling, hammering, sewing and cooking’.  Design & Technology at Kingsdale is a dynamic faculty in which students are taught how to use their higher-order thinking and analytical skills to solve problems across a range of practical areas.  These transferrable skills are used across many disciplines and fields in the modern world, both in and out of design fields.

Design & Technology at Kingsdale uses traditional and modern equipment and processes: our workshop facilities include a fully equipped engineering room with specialist CAD/CAM equipment such as laser cutter, CNC routers and vinyl cutter as well as a traditional workshop for developing hand-crafting skills. Our Textiles Technology room complements traditional methods with a computerised sewing machine and the Food Technology room is exemplary in both facilities and subject matter covered.

At KS4, Years 9 – 11 we currently offer the following AQA courses:

  • Food Technology
  • Product Design
  • Resistant Materials
  • Engineering (Single Award)

The department is forward thinking, always looking at industry activities and tailoring courses to suit the times in which we live. We expanded the department and now offer A level product design.

Looking forward to welcoming our students back for the start of the Summer Term this morning.
