Geography

Geography at Kingsdale strives to foster in pupils a sense of awe in the physical and human world and the interconnections between them. Students develop knowledge of places and environments throughout the world, an understanding of maps, and a range of investigative and problem-solving skills both inside and outside the classroom. As students study geography they encounter different societies and cultures, and this helps them realise how nations rely on each other. It can also inspire them to think about their own place in the world, their values, and their rights and responsibilities to other people and the environment. As such, it also prepares students for university life and employment.

Fieldwork and the use of ICT is an intrinsic part of geography at Kingsdale. Fieldwork opportunities across key stages enable pupils to apply the skills they are taught in thinking spatially and in using maps, images, and new technologies, including geographical information systems (GIS), to collect, present and analyse information. In so doing pupils develop a broad range of transferable skills in computing, maths, and literacy.
